  • Ecoke® contains a minimum of 30% fully renewable biomass, delivering substantial reductions in CO2 emissions whilst enabling the end user to meet their environmental objectives.
  • Ecoke® provides an instant and cost-effective solution, requiring zero changes to production processes, handling and storage.

CPL continues to expand its penetration in to the steel and energy-intensive foundation industries, accelerating its delivery campaign to Liberty Steel’s Electric Arc Furnace facility at Rotherham.

Ecoke® continues to enjoy great success in hard-to-abate industries throughout Europe – particularly in the UK, Spain, Germany, France, Italy and Scandinavia – and is now attracting attention from a wider global audience.

Scott Jackson, Plant Manager at ACP of LIBERTY Speciality Steel said: “The success of LIBERTY’s Ecoke® trials is a major step forward for our GREENSTEEL strategy. The major reductions in CO2 emissions Ecoke® enables without any downside to the production process can help to further decarbonise our production and the wider steel industry.”

Jason Sutton, CEO of CPL Solid Fuels, said: “We are proud to support Liberty’s GREENSTEEL initiative: Liberty Steel is at the vanguard of decarbonisation strategies in steel, we quickly identified a natural fit and an opportunity to develop a strategic partnership between two major employers in the Yorkshire and Humber region. Ecoke® provides an immediate path to decarbonisation, and we are committed to a programme of product development and investment to deliver further advances in biofuels in order to exceed industry expectations and deliver further carbon savings for the coming years.

Throughout much of 2022 customers have additionally been faced with delivery security issues and we are actively working with a number of major industrial companies on how best the combined capacity of 500,000 tonnes per annum across our UK and Ireland production facilities can help alleviate these supply-chain issues and provide security of supply.”

Solid Fuels Managing Director, Steve Anson, added: “Our continued success follows consistently excellent results from testing and trials since our launch 12 months ago, and we continue to build sustainable relationships with strategically important partners for the future. Where no two furnaces react in quite the same way and no two industries share identical demands, our aim is to develop customer-specific grades and blends to maximise the production and carbon-saving benefit. We look forward to developing our commercial relationship and technical cooperation with Liberty over the coming months and years to mutual benefit. Our next-gen solid fuels are already under development and this partnership with Liberty will continue as we further develop sustainable solutions for the future.

It is increasingly evident that Ecoke® has significant potential to reduce CO2 emissions in blast furnaces, electric arc furnaces, ferro alloy and soda ash production, and for the broader manufacturing industry. The imperative to decarbonise gathers pace not only as a result of legislative process but also from an increasingly consumer-led mandate”.
